“FIFA suggested us first on that issue. We have informed the government, ”said Hong Myung-bo, Secretary General of the Korean Football Association (KFA).
FIFA president Gianni Infantino earlier said that the organization was discussing South Korea and Korea hosting the tournament together.
According to Hong, FIFA proposed this idea from about 1 month ago, when KFA chairman Chung Mong-Gyu attended a FIFA meeting. However, Mr. Hong said that FIFA has not yet made a formal proposal and the KFA has not discussed with the North.
“The issue of co-organization with North Korea needs to be discussed with the government. But we still have not received an answer from the government, “Hong said.
According to FIFA, countries need to confirm their desire to host the event on March 15, and the deadline for registration is April 16 this year. The name of the country selected to host the world women’s football championship is announced in March 2020.
So far Australia, Colombia, Japan, and South Africa have expressed interest in hosting, AP reported.
Korea and South Korea have agreed to co-host the 2032 Summer Olympics.
In 2017, South Korean President Moon Jae-in expressed the idea of co-hosting the World Cup (World Cup) 2030 with Korea, Japan, and China.
